Well we finally got our panels installed on Wednesday, only ordered it about 3 months ago . Yesterday wasn't a bad day, we collected about 12kwh from the roof. Not sure how much we used though Today I can't see much being collected so will just have to wait till we get our first bill.

We ordered a unit more than 5 months ago and we are still waiting for installation. Very frustrating.

My uncle installed a 10KW system back in April so that he would not have to pay any power bills he even had to upgrade his transformer it cost about $50,000 all up, his meter was going backwards real fast Synergy in there efforts didn't like the fact that he wasn't paying so they installed a smart meter and all the power used at night he now has to pay for dispite giving them heaps of free power during the day. Just thought you guy's may be interested in this fact. Quambie my power bills are even larger than yours ,I put in a 2.28KW system and my next power bill still went up.

Wow! You must be over the moon. We got our system installed a week ago, after waiting for 7 months for installation. Over the weekend I noticed that the old power meter has been changed by Western Power from the old bulky thing with spinning dials to a small box with a small digital screen. I would like to see what the next bill will be like.

My wife likes sowing so she leaves the Iron on plus 2 school age kids and our clothes dryer gets a work out that alone uses heaps plus we live in an old transportable with no insulation in the walls so the airconditioners are on lots I come in from the paddock and go around turn every thing off but the others don't care they don't pay the bills.

From my conversation with an energy consultant, he reckons we will soon be paying 50 cents per unit of electricity! At that rate, all our bills will double what they are today. Scary thought.

Yes luckliy we are still on the old tariff. We have been making more of an effort to turns off lights, etc, and are tying to get the kids to do the same. I do use the dryer a bit in winter but only to finish off the clothes. I have under cover lines which get them nearly dry. Chooky your meter has been changed to the new one and as soon as the installers turn on the system it start producing. I have read a article on the news website that said which ever government is in power, the powerbills over the next 10 years will keep increasing above the index.

I agree with you guys that the cost of power will keep on going up There is no need for this all its going to do is to cause grief to a lot of people even now the government puts aside Millions of dollars for those that cant pay there bills DROP the PRICE the government is a spendthrift and has lost the plot a million means nothing to them they spend it like water with the iron ore and the crude we have off the coast we should at least get a subsidy on power every other civilised country in the world dose it why not us Trev

Trev,
The politicians see this time (the global warming age) as an opportunity to raise the charges. Because the general public has accepted that charges have to increase in order to save the planet. Whether it will or not is highly debatable.
This is no different to oil companies charging high rates for petrol because we are now used to the higher charges. Unleaded petrol is around $1.50 a litre. This was the price when oil prices were $140 per barrel. But today the oil price is less than $90 per barrel so what is the justification for the $1.50 per litre price?

HI Chooky agree with that, The government are not about to stand up to an oil company a good few years ago in Pommy land they tried the same thing People power and the government put stop to that then for a few years, the oil companies told them they would pull out of the country they were told to do just that if they wanted to I cant remember the year I was told this my a mate that lives there If the WA government were Dinkum on Global warming they would not have stopped the subsidies on the sola package and say that there was enough of it in WA the trouble is we do not have enough people power in Australia and they get away with murder Trev

The fed gov't spent a few billion on the insulation scheme and then a few more million fixing that up. If they spent that money on giving every household a solar panel unit, and forcing all major corporations that own commercial buildings to instal solar panels, the reliance on fossil fuel power generation would be decreased dramatically. Why wouldn't the gov't go down this route? Because of fear of backlash from the power companies and the unions.
You are right that we do not have enough people power. I think in time people will get sick of the situation and start complaining.
