Today we are getting our solar panels installed on our roof for our effort to put power back into the grid and have cheaper electricty bills. Maybe challenging as we have adult kids living with us! But I am happy to be the electricity natzi for a while. I have changed all our light bulbs to the more energy saving ones. I have kept our bills for the last year and will be comparing them over the next 12 months. I do have a life really, but we like to live as self sufficient as possible. Will let you know how we go. Cheers Linda

Now that will be interesting Linda we have looked into those there are only the two of us but for some reason our bills are high they tell me we are using from 38 to 42 units per day we had a guy look and test al the stuff we use he could not find anything that is running away with the power the cost for us to get sola in to handle that lot was $ 150,000 so we declined thankyou then I found out that the power guys will only buy back 5 KW per day max so it was not for us at this time good luck keep us posted Trev

Hi Quambie I didn't about the 5 kw thing But we have only put in a system that will only reduce our bills . For a 1.5 system the Gvt is giving a $6,000 lodd discout per household and the difference to pay should work out to be $1,500. We went for this option and bought another system as well but not at the discount price. So we will run a 3 system for $10,000. Cheers Linda

That sounds good Linda. We had a guy come out and give us a quote and it was about $25,000! I thought that was too much. Yours seems to be a reasonable price. Our last bills have been $497, $354, $307 and $538, about $100-$150 more than previous period. Let us know how you bills cut down. Might need to get the details off you for us to see if we should get them too.

I think this is the difference I wanted to kill my bill totally so all the house all the power we use would be free and we could sell a load back to the grid as they wanted to purchase green power but not at that cost I will be interested to see what difference it makes Trev

I wonder why it is that in the USA about 8 years ago you could do your whole house with sola power feed back to grid for $ 8,000 US and they say it should be less expensive now/ it must be a population thing Trev

Update I did post that Synergy would only purchase back 5 KW of green power per day per customer . as I was told on the phone by them . I had to go to Beverly yesterday had a chat with a guy that has jut put in Sola power he tells me he sells all his excess power back to Synergy any thoughts on this how much do you sell back per day. I would hate to think that Synergy were misleading me and it dose make a difference to the end costing Trev

Only 5KW? No wonder makes only about $3 difference to our bill. Except our bills are actually getting bigger and bigger. Hubby blames my chick breeding.

Trev we are only using about 19 units per day with 5 of us living here, including two teenagers that refuse to turn things off. Would probably be cheaper to find out where all of your power is going first?? As you say, a system to cover all that you are currently using would be very expensive and with probably none left over to sell back to synergy.
Whoorooloo, I have checked our bills. We are only using 1 extra unit per day when I have the incubator or brooder going. My OH also blames the higher bills on my chickens but the number of units we use each day hasn't really changed.
Keep updating, it's great to hear of others experiences

My latest power bill this is a great one we use so the power c/o tells me are using a staggering 57 units per-day at a cost of $12.30 per day total bill $752.15 not bad there are only two of us and we have instant gas hot water and the cook top on the oven is Gas we only use two gas bottles per year I wonder where the power went we did have a guy from the state Gov visit us and had a look at all the things we use and costed them the only thing he could not do was the ducted reverse cycle air all the other bits came up fine no high cost on anything in the home of on the farm how do you compare Trev
