Well i actually had 2 that were cheeping and still not hatched. This afternoon one had finally pipped through but its feet were hanging and it seemed to be suck. ikbokchook came over to get 3 chicks off me and she helped me get it out. Just got home from little athletics and it is still alive. hopefully it is over the worst. I am going to get the kids into bed (cause we have to be at cricket at 8am) and then candle the other and hopefully pick a little hole where its beak is.

Hey Shea - I hope that little chickie is doing ok now, and the other one also pulls through. Just thought I'd let you know that the kids begged me all the way home to let them have the little black chickie as a pet - so (of course!) I gave in! We have kept 2 in the brooder ( I know that wasn't quite the point of the whole thing but they are sooo beautiful!) and popped one under big fat mum chook this evening. She immediately fluffed up all her feathers (even more than usual!) and seems to have accepted the littlie with no trouble at all - she is a fantastic mum and I will post some piccies tomorrow! I hope your last 2 chickies are ok. Thankyou so much for the chicks! Cheers!

As promised - here is the happy new mum! (I know she doesn't really look happy, she always has a really grumpy look on her face but she's a real sweetie!) The poor things have had an awful time trying to stay cool today, I've had to top up their water about a million times but she's very taken with her new charge! ;D Thanks again Shea!

Oh it's so sweet to see her with a proper Mum. I'm glad mummachook took to her. Ikbokchook, the one that you helped me with is looking much better tonight. Is smaller than the others but its stronger than it was this morning. The very last one (that I didn't realise was still cheeping) I think has died, just had a listen and couldn't hear anything but will leave in the incubator till tomorrow. No pipping at all. I tried to candle it last night but couldn't see anything so I decided to just leave it to nature.

The 1 we helped is still alive but we think it might be blind. It is not as steady as the others on its feet and it doesn't move around as much as them. Must be drinking but we haven't seen it. All we can do it wait and see what happens. On a brighter note, the pekins are getting their wing feathers and colours are changing. One of the yellow ones (white) has a greyish tinge developing and the other a colour that is hard to describe and it wouldn't show up on the photo's, fawn maybe? anyway this is the one with the darker feathers. This is the darker of the 2 that Wendy said would be cuckoo, can see some lighter colour coming into the feathers. This is the lighter blue colour, there seems to be no lighter colour showing here yet.

Hmm not sure about the white ones colours coming through. I have only just hatched 5 white babies for myself. It will be interesting to see what happens there. It will most likely go away after a second lot of feathers. The 3rd is definately a cuckoo and the last one is likely to be a blue like mum.
