Shea I would move the water to the other end of the brooder, this will stop them from mucking it up so much, plus give them some more room. As for the last egg it was only due yesterday so you can leave it for another day, but if it was me I would candle it and see if it has died. If in any doubt leave it in the incubator.

The rooster is a light sussex and I have 2 light sussex hens, 1 l/s that I don't think is pure, 2 black australorps and 1 xbreed. I can't believe how quickly they grow. All are getting their new wing feathers and they are getting heavier everyday. I can also notice that they are eating more. They are in an old esky at the moment which is good for keeping the warmth in but they won't last another 2 and a half weeks in it. I have something for them to go into when they no longer need any heat. I think I might have to go to Coles for a big box. He's the kids with them when they were only about 2 days old.

I made the chickies an outside coop for the nice sunny days. They spent their first day out there yesterday and they were so quiet last night. Like children they had tired themselves out. Here is a photo of Jess our staffy having her first look at them. I took the photo and then she got up and went to her daytime sleeping spot. Wasn't too interested at all.

cheeky little things though slipped straight through the green mesh and I had to run gutter guard around the bottom.

Here are a couple of pics of the first hatch, now 5 weeks old. They grow so quickly and we can't believe how small the day olds are now compared to these ones.
