Normally I dont let guinea hens brood but I had a guinea hen go broody under a pile of branch prunings near the house and I thought was the heck I'll leave her to it. I checked her lunchtime today and was greeted by some lil sunbathing keets. They had hatched last night. So we moved her into an aviary so she and the keets are safe. She had 9 keets with 3 eggs still unhatched, which I popped in the bator and 2 of those have since hatched. Just candled the last egg and its clear, so we've ended up with 11 lil keets. They're mainly pearl with maybe a couple of pied, I havent had a close look yet. No lavender though. Took a quick piccie a few minutes ago:

They are pretty cute hey. I dont' have guinea fowl. Do you lock them up at night or do they roam the property and roost in the trees

They free range the property and roost in a big gum tree in the backyard.

Do they stay on your own property or do they visit the neighbours/ Do you have any trouble with foxes at all

They mainly stay on our property, in breeding season they occasionally venture down into the reserve at the bottom of our place. And no I dont have fox troubles *touch wood*. You thinking about getting some? If so, I hope you've got good neighbours coz they make a bl*dy racket

Not for me...My brother has 100 acres in Gidgegannup...he wants birds that can free range an look after themselves. He's has a couple of chooks but the foxes keep getting them. I do think they are cute but I only have 3 acres and I am pretty sure that the dogs next door would put paid to any wanderers if I did't lock them up at night.......oh and can you eat their eggs

I used to keep and breed guinea fowl. They were kept in pens at night They will roost in trees at night but with foxes around will dissappear one by one. I would not recommend keeping them unless you have a very large block and deaf neighbors, and pair of ear protectors ready for morning feed.
