The mozzies are bad this year too. Got a new insect zapper and filled it up in less than an hour! I guess I should have bought the biggest model.

We have flies and mozzies in plague proportions this year. Last year we had flies for around 3 weeks and then they disappeared. I think the wetter weather was good for them.

Sheep poo may be too dry for them. The beetles consume the liquid in the cow pad. the don't necessarily eat the material in the pad itself. May be you need a few cows at your place? Think of all the fresh milk.

Mmm heat treated takes all the taste out just to stop us getting sick , funny how more get sick on treated food tho. I had them when I had pigs but they didn't go for sheep dung , they are going to release a new one but it still will only do cows.

Candled the eggs last night. The developing ones are doing well though the chicks looks a lot smaller than I expected. There were still lots of space in the egg. I can see movements in the egg, so they are doing alright. The last couple days must be a real growth spurt for them. I could see one trying to break through the membrane already. Today is day 18, they are in lockdown and I am eagerly checking them to see if they have started to pip.

yes i had a look at that as well thought they would have one for all kinds of dung by now as for the heat treatment of milk I have done this with fresh milk from the cow nice and warm and I can`t get it to tast anything like the stuff you buy from the shops never mind I don`t have to drink it only when the cows go on strike and they have just done that kiked the calves off and the milk has stopped boo hoo back to the shop ?
chooky i had a look at the duck eggs last night i got shot of 6 out of 16 the ones that are left i have my doubts about only one I could see movement in the others ? time will tell trev

Checked the eggs again, 1 pipped. A GLW. I think tomorrow will be a busy day checking the eggs. Even after hatching so many chicks over the past years, it is still an exciting event for me.

That's interesting chooky I had 2 GLW hatch a day earlier than the rest in the last big lot too . The milk when pasteurised gets heated up to near 80 then pressurised thru a small hole to make it stay in suspension

A faster developing line? I am not expecting it to hatch for another 24 hours at least. It is only day 18 today. I have a broody waiting to raise them.
