hello I have just moved over here from Victoria where I have bred Chinese Silkies for years but stopped about 10 years ago while I have been travelling around Australia.
I would have loved to take my chooks with me but somehow I didn't think the caravan parks would understand!
I am thinking about getting back into chooks and breeding chooks as a hobby, and I am sure a lot has changed.
Not sure if i should ask these questions here or put them somewhere else, what is the best brand of incubator for 60 - 80 eggs, where do you get your Mareks' vaccine over here and how much does it cost?

I'm sure you'll get answers to those and many other questions mechooks although I am not an incubatorer or a Marekser myself. Welcome to the board. I don't think I have ever seen a chinese silky and I am trying very hard to resist asking if they have slanty eyes, which I am sure you have been asked a zillion times.

Hi Mechooks and Welcome to WAP.. I hope the opportunity to travel all around the country compensated for the lack of having some little chookens at the time. You will find this site very informative in helping you to get up and running again. Not to mention very entertaining. We have just started a new thread called Poultry Feed Watch were people are starting to list were they get their various supplies from. I am sure some one will list the Mareks vaccine there. As far as I am Concerned Multiquip do the best incubaters for that many eggs. I personally only have a small 16 egg Multiquip and a Hovabator that does about 20-30 eggs. Have a look on ebay heaps come up on there. or WA Poultry Traders. good luck

Hi mechooks, Welcome to WAP Great to have another Silkie lover among us Horses7 will be able to give you some info regarding the Mareks vaccine. On the incubator, I have a hovabator which takes 60-80 bantam eggs, they're reasonably cheap to purchase and easy to use

Hi mechooks, great to have you here. We are a friendly lot and look forward to having you as part of our forum. (OUR.....sounds like a bit of ownership happening here...lol) I have a hovabator auto turn which takes 42 eggs. If you take the auto turner out it takes 120 eggs. But I would not be without the turner, I am tied to too many things as it is...lol

thanks so much everyone for your replies. i will have a look at the incubators mentioned.
i used to have a brinsea that was an oldie but a goodie, there are a lot more brands available these days and I wouldnt know where to buy Brinsea over here, and I wouldn't trust them freighting it over from the east!
i think a smaller one will do for starters.

I use a brinsea, it was purchased from WA Poultry Equipment in Baldivis WA. they have quite a large range of bators available, and I am in the same mind as you, could get them cheaper if posted from the east, but was a bit wary of how it would travel. Bell south usually have a stand at the Royal each year and bring quite a bit of stuff over with them including bators, if you can hang out till then that is another option.
