Hi Dan, welcome to WAP, in regards to your query, I started of all of my breeds from eggs that I purchased, and had used the cockerel with the hens, and touch wood have not had any problems, with some of my breeds am now down to 3rd generation, but what I did do was make certain that the cockerel and the hens did not have the same fault and from 2nd generation down have line bred.

Hi Dan and welcome. Light sussex are a beautiful chook, would love to see pictures of your flock. I love your artistic touch with the chook, did you create it?

hi dan i agree with h7 she is our problem solver but in a lot of the books that is how they keep some of the breeds at there purest so if you have no problems when they breed all the best to you but if you do depending on the problem you may wish to get rid of the roo but welcome anyway and good luck and i agree light sussex are such lovely chooks i have some myself have you ever seen the coronation sussex oooh you wait it is a stunner soon it will be 9-10-11 breeds it really is hard to stop
