Hi Milly, welcome to one of the best sites around. We are a friendly bunch and we would love to see some pictures of your chooks etc. What sort of ducks are you thinking of having?

Hi Milly, welcome and you are right about the site being the right spot. Great feed back and advice when needed. Lots of luck in setting up your permaculture style backyard, hope you succeed. I'm just getting started in the chooken business and am looking forward to the compost from them to set up a sensational vegi patch. Chicks only 4 weeks old. Finally finished the chook pen and coop yesterday and am ready to transfer chicks in a couple of weeks. So far all is going to plan. Once again welcome and lots of luck.

Hi Millie and Welcome. You will enjoy this site lots of interesting people and information. Look forward to hearing about your permiculture efforts. How do the chookens handle the heat in Shark Bay or is it not as hot as I was thinking

Hi Millie Your chicks won't be providing much manure yet, but they will. We use it to make our compost. Also, after the chooks have been in the run awhile we turn over the packed down soil to bring the worms up and later we take off the top couple of inches of soil and use it direct onto the vegie garden, replacing it with mulch or poor soil that will soon get rich with the chooks working on it. We're not totally permaculture but we use a lot of the ideas. Anyway, this is a good site. Look forward to seeing your posts.
