Hi everyone, Im hoping someone can tell me what the effect of a high temp on my duck eggs will be. the thermometer in the incubator was up to about 103 when I got home today. It was pretty warm here, so thats probably why. The eggs are due to hatch in a week. Any tips on what to look for when candling? I candled them all when i got home and some movement in a couple of the eggs, no movement in others. Am i worrying unecessarily or have I just lost my babies? Thanks, Wendy

Wow! Thanks Steph. I just dont know how long they were at that temp or possibly higher as I was at work today. I have since candled again, (couldnt help it, I felt so ill at the prospect of losing them) and I have seen signs of life in most of the eggs. Its becoming hard to see much as the babies are getting so big! But I could definately see movement. Only 8 days to go

I had the similar, went upto 104, I believe the extra heat is coming from the eggs as the embryo's grow. I just dropped the temp down and still had a successful hatch of both blue silkies and ducks. If it was me I would not worry too much.

Try not to stress too much wendy. Like fluffy, when my bator temp gets a bit high I just turn the temp down ever so slightly. We also had a hot day on the day that mine was 106, like you I was shocked when I saw that and freaked out. The surrounding air temp in the house was driving the bator temp up so out of desperation to lower the temp I actually put the lid slightly ajar and left it that way for a few hours until night time when the house cooled down. Eggs still hatched. So it just goes to show that eggs are pretty forgiving
