well i thought i would get this started by letting you know that i run all my washing machine water out the back and into my vege patch or onto the lawn and i do a lot of washing !! thanks to the hubby loving to work on cars and build it's amazing how green it is almost unbelievable that it has changed due to tha wash water apparently the suds you use for washing your clothes has got the same stuff they use as a wetting agent so it helps the soil absorb water anyway getting carried away i just bought the length of pipe i needed to go to the vege patch mostly and put a joiner on the pipe that goes down the drain for the washing machine and do my wash and it's just the same as i normally wash except instead of going down the drain it waters my garden the only thing is you have to keep the door open a little for the pipe to run outside and then disconnect it when you finish and roll the bit off the patio up but i leave the rest of the pijavascript:add("%20:D") Cheesype running along the fence when not in use so no one trips over it javascript:add("%20;D") Grin

Thats a good idea beck. We do something similiar, our house is on stumps so we've connected a pipe to the bottom of the bath (its a bath/shower in one) so that all our shower water runs into a 1000l poly tank (one of those ones in a steel cage). We then use this water to water the gardens (not the vegies though).

We have our grey water running straight into our leach. I have the greenest lawn and it gets watered occassionally in summer.

Our waste water runs into the old style french drain. The fruit trees are in pots on top of it. Watered right through summer from our waste water and the best fruit.

Beck I have a similar set up, but the hose just goes into the garden. Rather than having to leave the door open though (perth hills, think snakes!), hubby lifted the small drain cover inside the laundry and threaded the hose through that, and to the pipe in the wall that goes outside. The flexible hose does lay over the path, but is better than leaving door open, specially as I do washing at all hours of the day and night. Plus one of my dogs likes to chase the hose water so I need to keep her in when the washing machine is on.
Greywater is fine on the roots of vege and fruit plants but should not be used on edible or underground food crops.

My partner did this years ago with his washing machine water. He just made sure to move it around the lawn. Apparently it was the best looking lawn! I think you have to be a bit careful if you have young kids that soil their pants - I wouldn't be doing handstands on it! The other thing is that artificial wetta soils can be detrimental to the natural microbes in the soil. They don't add anything nutritious to the soil, it really only adds a coating to each grain that can disappear after a period of time. It needs to be topped up regularly as anyone using wetta soil would know.

Our Fruit trees are feeding off greywater, we installed an approved greywater system because we use a composting tiolet.
