Hello all you chooky people, I'm a newby and just thought I'd intro myself.. My name is Merrilyn and I live in Nth Dandalup... I just love this web site. Have always had chooks, but now I'm getting into breeding a few different varieties and using an incubator for the very first time. There is so much to learn and a site like this is fantastic, as you can study up on everybody's different experiences and gain heaps of knowledge. Thank you to all those who contribute... very entertaining and interesting... ;D Merrilyn

Hi Merrilyn, welcome, we are a friendly bunch and as Steph said, We love piccies. (Well I do...lol). I just love my chooks, I have silkies. My husband calls them my other family...lol. He reckons I spend more time with them. Well there are babies and they need attention, his response is they are only chooks. He is really a big softy and loves my silkies too.

Hello folks, So sorry I haven't replied to you all, Thank you for the friendly welcomes... My modem fried and had to wait for the bigpuddle mob to send me a new one because it was under warranty... So now I have to catch up on everything!!! I have Blue and Black Australorps, Blue, black and splash Orpingtons, couple of old Lt Sussex, Buff Cochins an Isa X and a few mutts that are my broody surrogate mums. They are mostly all running together, just in the process of building some pens so I can keep my purebreds seperate. They are gonna hate me because they have the run of the paddock, farm sheds, river banks, old dairy etc. They have a wonderful time scratching around. They won't like it when I lock them up. Will post some pics if I can figure out how to do it. Hope you are all well and the chookies are laying... Isabella with bator chicks Splashies laying googs Havin fun in the paddock

Hi Ladies, Isabella is an Isa x Sussex and an excellent mum, the chicks are orp/australorp. I just get her off the perch in the dark and stick her in a nesting box and give her chicks out of the incubator and she accepts them. She's a little gem. Have to say Steph, you are soooo clever building that palace for your chooks. What a handy girl you are...

You're so lucky to have a hen like Isabella, an on-call foster mum! How many chickies does she have? Thanks Merrilyn, I quite enjoy the challenge of trying to build something out of scraps, and I was really trying to make this house look attractive because its on the side of the driveway opposite the carport so everybody that visits will see it. I must say though, most of my other chooken houses arent quite so flash but theyre out in the backyard so are kinda hidden hehe
