Very nice and tough pen. It should give the fox some stress trying to break in.

The pens are in a line 500mm apart with mesh sitting on the ground in between each pen and extending under the pens by about 100mm. The same for the front and back, I have heard a fox during the night lately but the growers have been safe and there is no indication that it has tried to get into the pens. The mesh for the pens is 25mm square and of a heavy gauge the same mesh is used on the ground, needless to say I am very happy with the way it has turned out.

Are they light enough to be easily moved? Also the sheltered area looks rather open. Is this a problem in winter?

Three people can carry then easily, they had a set of wheels (wheel barrow type) which they put under the covered end which made things easy for two people. The photo is a bit deceptive, the covered end covers more than a third of the pen, however I had mine made so that the top went to the next hoop towards the front but only half way down the sides. This gives good protection from above while allowing air flow at the bottom, the back part is still fully covered. I have the back facing towards where the winter weather comes from. The extra sheeting also gives good shade while allowing early morning sun in as the young chooks like to lay in the sun in the early morning and move back into the shade as it gets warmer. One thing that surprised me was that the sheeting remains reasonably cool in the middle of the day I suppose it is due to the fact that it is of a lightish colour.

:DVery Expensive in my opinion!... but whatever works for you.... Gumtree, buy the mesh/post/$2 old security doors... & build bigger cheaper..l IF YOU have the time.... as this retired old fool does...ps: new chickens due out tomorrow... & will have to move turkeys out shortly....to make way for them....3 weeks.+-, before they need the grass run... if I keep them...

Are yes building bigger and cheaper is all right as long as you do not have health issues that make walking an effort let alone building anything.
