On the chook front, I went from having too many eggs to almost none because most of the girls have gone broody!! Just when it is starting to warm up. What are these girls thinking??

Tis the warm weather that sends them broody. Only solution have a non-broody breed.

I don't mind the broodiness as long as they don't suffer or die because of the heat. I have had hens die in the nest on a hot day.

I had up to 12 broodies at a time that I've been debrooding . Finally finished harvest to average yield was a disappointing 0.7 T/Ha

Feather foot love your new profile photo..a real thinker....put. chook in cage off the ground... one week, let out back to normal... that's what I do... Works every time... Candled 52 eggs last night... all good except 5... three Sussex & two Pekin...only set them to check fertility, so very happy..do it at 14 days, because I'm lazy... & you don't have to think... Off to Golf in half an hour after a big morning, washing cleaning, lights/shares/replacing bulbs etc..etc.... just for Santa...:-) :-) ... enjoy...

That is a bugger, it's never good loosing growers especially this time of year as it's hard to hatch more. I should get the last of four grower pens that I had made tomorrow the three that are in place are looking good and have been well fox proofed. They cost a few bob but are strong and well made if I had of been younger and capable I would have done them myself but alas age has caught up with me. These are them www.hutchwest.com.au/SuperHutch.html
