It can be difficult sometimes. With Aurthur and his hatch mates even the blacks looked light in colour at birth. I posted some pics on BYP a couple months ago and many were sure that majority of the chicks in the pic were blue however more than half were actually black lol. Fingers crossed your baby is blue though! I am sure that mother hen will be excited to have some babies now! edit to add that I think your baby is from Arthur ( the other roo we gave to CK). Hopefully CK can confirm this lol. CK posted a pic of him a few days ago here wapoultrytraders.proboards.com/thread/4607/australorp-pics

Nearly all the Australorp chicks I have on the ground this year are from champ who is from your eggs Anne , That is why I had swaped roosters around to get a bit more variation. I only have 1 splash hen the rest are all black so if it was a black chick it should be black black not the light black. I find the black chicks from the blue cross are lighter with a faint lace till the adult feathers come in. Georgie thro very good blue's he has the aruancanas in with him I have 3 of his crosses in the brooder box and all are blue and look like Australorps at the moment.

yes it still a work in progress need to get the eye colour right and darker legs would have been easier on recessive white than dominant white but this is what I have to use.

Fingers crossed it is a blue Anne. It would be great if you got some of your old line back.
