i have 2 standard silkys and 2 bearded silkys. the standard silkys have beatiful little round patches on there faces with a beatufull blue colour but my bearded silkys dont have this feature and there face skin is very very black...is this normal for bearded silkys because all the pics on silks i have seen on internet have had the blue faces??

further study today proves bearded silkys dont have the blue face...instead this is where there beard starts growing from, i can also see the skin on a bearded silky is quit alot darker than a standard silky...they really are quit different

its not particularly related to whether the silkie is bearded or not................some silkies have the turquoise/blue ear and some do not. while it is preferred that they have the turquoise earlobe its not essential for the standard of the breed (ie not a disqualification). to be honest i don't remmeber whether my bearded silkies i used ot have had a blue lobe or not.

bearded silkies of exhibition quality with turquoise earlobes a sitting white bearded silkie a young blakc bearded silkie cockerel goldie a champion silkie i hope this answers your query. as stated before, the silkie can still be shown without hte blue lobe, and its NOT the result of cross breeding though.

some of them actually got to die of old age.............. but the majority of them were killed in the super silkie spree that the fox went on a while ago!!
very tempting to shoot.......................but really cannot wehre i am, have to look out for the neighbours too and tehy are EXTREMELY good about my chickens, however i think they would be a bit upsset at the shooting issue.

benda hang a few white feathers out side your chook house
jacquie pity they would be a bit upset at the shooting issue. I can understand that if there close to you Traps are handy if you have a stupid fox or a hungry one then its worth a shot at that range cant miss I do not know what the answer is regarding the fox issue its a hard one to address everyone I know hates them and we try to keep out neck of he woods clear I did a kill of 10 cockerels yesterday put all the insides and the heads I an old river bed this morning it was all gone not a bit left at all goes to show you can shoot all you like but you will never get them all That's why I have to use other ways good luck mate Trev
