???Does anyone know if it's ok to use old guinea pig bedding/hay on your garden and in your compost heap? They do poo a lot so the hay is pretty stinky. I always thought rodent-y type poo was a bad idea as it encourages SNAKES!!!! We are getting close to restricted burning period here so burning won't be an option for long. Any ideas on what else can be done with it? (And, yes, we have already had a snake around here and lots of bobtails so am getting anxious, it's going to be a long, hot summer)

hey belle i just put all mu guinea pig muck into the compost bin as i think it is pretty acidic and not good for the plants until it breaks down a bit ..i just dump it in give it a bit of a squirt with the hose and the sun and bugs do the rest

Belle guinea pig poo should be great in the garden, just treat it the same as other manure, don't use it too strong. In some permaculture books that I have read, people with small yards use guinea pigs instead of chooks to clean up the vege garden.
