Yesterday i moved all the babies around and this morning one of the 7 weeks old got into the pen with the 3 16 weeks old pullets. Needless to say, it is bleedingfrom the head from being pecked. The bleeding has stopped and it seems ok. If just looks yukky. I've seperated it and now am wondering what I need to do. Can i put it back in with its own group or wait till its healed?

oh dear, poor chick! Just from what I read on the forum before, I probably would not put it back straight away, and definitely not if there is any blood visible. I think the others recommended to disguise the red, they mentioned blue food colouring. But I'm sure someone who knows what they are talking about will give you better advice Good luck with it!

Yep, I agree - they just can't seem to help themselves when they see something red! I painted my toenails red the other day, went into the chook pen - ouch! The little buggers all went for it! I think you should probably keep it seperate until it's healed or if it's not bleeding - do what pianochook said - dab a bit of blue food colouring on it to deter them. If they look like they are bothering it though - remove it straight away! Hope the little chickie gets better soon! (Oh, by the way shea, those 3 I got from you are doing great! I would take some pictures but the kids broke my camers - grrrr! I think the black one might be a rooster though )

Oh Shea, Im so pleased you found it in time and saved it! I would douse its head with some blue food colouring and put it back with mum. I had 2 newborn Pekins that had to be put down last week because they were pecked really badly by some older chooks when they escaped from their run. I was sick with sadness about it.

Definately keep it away from the others, some antibiotic spray would help too.

We had a really busy day out so I was please when i got home and it was still alive. It seems happy enough but missing its brothers and sisters. I've decided I'm going to keep it seperated for a while. We've put vaseline on it to keep the flies of it but i think tomorrow i will get some antiseptic spray. It can enjoy the good life running around the yard whilst the others are penned up. Of course it has to be a girl that its happened to.

I agree with Fluffychook and antiseptic pray would be really good. Keeps the germs at bay while also disguising any bleeding good luck
