As it is coming into the season where hopefully we will all be having lots of new chicks hatching, I thought it be good to share some photos, and possibly a reference point of what the different breeds look like at different ages. I know from experience of putting a few different breeds of eggs into a tray, marking the eggs of course saying what they are, but when they hatch, the little blighters are not very considerate and leave their eggshells where they can be identified and run all over the hatcher. So then I have to wait till their feathers start to come through to know which is which. Also possibly include in this topic, photos of new arrivals. When you have been looking for something special and finally locate it, I know I usually bore all my friends with "oh look what I have finally found" and they look at me as if I am loco and think , thats nice its a chook, what is this woman on about, as they look out into my backyard and see the all the pens and about another 30 odd running around the garden.
So please let me know your opinions on this and if there is anything else you think should be included in this topic.

Except when I am looking for new stock I'm not sure if I would be interested in a section devoted only to new chicks. I have 22 chicks at foot at present. One I think is a guineafowl but I'm not sure. About half are gold laced wyandottes and the others crosses between wyandotte cross hens, a silkie hen and a frizzle rooster. The crosses are the most interesting looking. Is the idea to select one or two for a photograph and if so what are the criteria? The most attractive? The most true to type? I'm happy to send some photos to start the thread running if others are interested.

On Jesse's rare chooks I agree a section on this would be good. What rare breeds are available in WA? What do they look like? Do people import them from the ES or OS and if so, what are the customs requirements, how do they travel? Is it better to get eggs and raise them? Would be a very interesting section I think. Also, what is rare? I thought my large gold laced wyandottes were pretty scarce when I first got them but although its true the bantams are predominant in shows, the large are hardly rare.
