Persin in avocados
Feeding avocados or guacamole to any non-human animal should be avoided completely. The symptoms include gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory distress, congestion, fluid accumulation around the tissues of the heart and even death. Birds seem to be particularly sensitive to this toxic compound.
* In birds, the symptoms are: increased heart rate, myocardial tissue damage, labored breathing, disordered plumage, unrest, weakness, and apathy. High doses cause acute respiratory syndrome (asphyxia), with death approximately 12 to 24 hours after consumption. Birds should not be caged or flighted under or near avocado tree groves where falling leaves or fruit may lead to serious or fatal consequences. If the circumstance arises where the possibility of avocado poisoning exists, take your bird to your avian veterinarian as soon as possible.

I have heard the stone is poisonous. I give my chooks the flesh and skin but never the stone. I might rethink giving them any scraps I may have too. Mind you there is never much left over!

I think I'll definately steer clear of it, it sounds like an awful way to die

Keall, lets hope the crows have suffered from it. I have my own problem with them at the moment. I am trying to think of a solution.
