I am a confirmed chookaholic, I started out with the good old Isa Browns about 3 years ago and then got a light Sussex and some Gold Lace Wyandottes which I hatched from some fertile eggs that were given to me. Well I now have, I think 13 different breeds and in the incubator have got some new colours of orpingtons. Hubby tries to keep reminding me that he is not going to be continually building new chook sheds and yards for the rest of his life. But I can't let him get bored at the weekends by not having anything to do and be able to relax, can I ?

Hey horses7, have you got any hints on how to approach hubby with new chook coup requests. Mine is away fishing at the moment, shame the weather has not been kind for him. But while he is away my daughter and I have been thinking about updating the chicken coup, he has another weeks holiday when he comes home. But I will need to steer him away from his boat project towards the chook project. A lot of fluttering eyes are needed....lol

good luck with the fluttering of eyes fluffychook, that didn't work for me, it just got him more sidetracked, , hubby is a bit of a perfectionist and I have found over the years, it was our wedding anniversary on Saturday (22 years), that the best way was for me to start to build something, and because I do such a lousy job, he ends up taking over and I get a really good one built, that worked well on the first 6 pens, but now we are up to pen no 11, the only way I can get then built now is I nag like hell, and then get back up with his dad who comes over to help him do it.

Well horses7 he is home and guess what, I didn't have to flutter the eyes or anything like that. I just mentioned my idea, pointing out that the room factor was in dire need and we already had most of the stuff needed, tin, wire, etc. He always said he would convert one of our sheds to a large coup when he got his BIG shed. (Pipe dream). So before long we were into cleaning out the old little shed that was going to be demolished in his BIG shed plan. And guess what, he has not even so much as looked at his boat of which he has pointed this out to me. I am glad I married a perfectionist as I know he will do a good job. As for doing it myself I usually just have to say "don't worry, I'll do it myself' and then he gets grumpy cause he knows I will....lol.....only backfired once in 26 years of marriage.

;D LOL Horses7 and Fluffychook... I use the same tactics with my hubby!! If iget impatient and start something, he will always take over... I suggested a new shed for the ducks the other day, which he agreed is necessary... I suggested something simple, like a few coppers logs and some chookwire as an open pen with just a small foxproof box for night time... he wants to go all out and build a totally foxproof enclosure for them... Guess I will be waiting for a long time Although.... he is in the process of buying a new (bigger) boat, so I might have to use that as ammunition... kinda like, I let you buy a boat, now build ME a Duckyard!! Except that I spend as much time fishing on the boat as he does, so it might not work... it is OUR boat afterall, whereas the poultry is aparently ALL mine

At least I have backup from one daughter. She bought the duck. I got the his mate from redchook (BYP). The new coup reno cost less than $50 and looks fantastic. Lots of room for everyone. Lots of head bobbing and practicing going on.
I should not side track him too much from the boat project, I too want it done so we can go out in it. I do all the driving and the last boat he rarely went out in it without me. This year we missed the prawning season due to having to sell the old boat to fund the renovations on the new boat.
