I would be interested to hear from everyone regarding some DIY feeders/waterers that dont cost a fortune and you can make easily. My chooks have outgrown the small feeders/waterers and other than a basin of water or an icecream container etc. I thought there must be other ways of making your own. I dont really want to buy the ones from the pet shop/ stockfeeds as they are abot $50

Hi Wendy Sorry missed this thread when you wrote it. I saw in an earlier thread from Mikemurphy that he uses old bottled water containers (you know those big ones) 10 or 15 litres...Not sure how he puts them together but I was planning on having a play around with soemthing similar as I am going to be going away for 3 weeks and although my daughter is going to be coming and going I just don't want there to be any little mishaps.
I will let you know how I go. Or if Mike's around maybe he can give us some tips

If anyone is still interested, I have a metal dish about dinner plate size and about 30mm high. I usually sit that on a block of wood about the same height, to get it up off the ground and stop the chooks raking dirt into it. I cut a piece of pvc drainpipe to about 200 mm long and drill a couple of holes about 20mm from one end. Stand the pipe in the dish with the holes nearest the bottom, then the water bottle sits upside down with the neck in the pipe. I set mine against a wall or a post with an ocky strap round the bottle to hold it in place. If it doesn't flow properly at first you need to adjust the length of the pipe. The end of the neck of the bottle should be just above the holes. As well as the big water bottles, which I originally buy fulkl from a service station for about $15, I have been making smaller dispensers for the chicks using big Vacola jars and those 5 litre wine flagons. Same principle.
