Hi all, I have drafted a letter to the local shopping centre asking for permission to have a small display of poultry when we dress up to attract attention. Below is what I have come up with and I would appreciate any comments or alterations. Of course I will include my address in the final draft.
Centre Manager Kalamunda Central Shopping Centre 39 Railway Road Kalamunda WA 6076
18th March, 2009
Re: Request for a small display of poultry for a couple of hours on 18th April, 2009
Dear Sir/Madam,
Recently the Shire of Kalamunda received a petition from residents within the shire petitioning that roosters be banned from residential blocks within the shire of Kalamunda. 18 people representing 13 households signed this petition.
The shire has responded by asking for public comment by the end of April, 2009.
I am seeking permission to have a small display of poultry within the centre which would consist of a maximum of 4 crates giving people the opportunity to sign a petition in favour of leaving the by-laws as they currently stand. Our intention is that we would also be dressing up in rooster/chicken outfits to attract attention.
I look forward to your reply at your earliest convenience

I wouldn't tell them that there was a petition - they might be worried about upsetting those people. So I'd do it more like this
Re: Request for a small display on 18th April, 2009
Dear Sir/Madam,
Recently the Shire of Kalamunda asked for public comment on whether roosters should be allowed in local backyards. We are a group who support the right to have roosters and we would lilke to have a small display of poultry within the centre to help us to present our case to the general public and win their support. We would require the display only for a couple of hours and it would consist of a maximum of 4 crates containing poultry. We would also be dressing up in rooster/chicken outfits to attract attention and we would invite people to sign a petition in favour of leaving the by-laws as they currently stand.
I look forward to your reply at your earliest convenience

How about something like. Exhibit would consist of small stand of four secure display cages .For purpose of showing poultry to the general public. Crates might not sound so clean or tidy .GOOD LUCK.

i think the main ones in your area would be midland junction poultry club(holds meetings at swan view), bullsbrook poultry club(meetings at gidge) and mundijong poultry club(i think teh meetings are at kalamunda). i don't know of any others in the metro area. i don't think they would have to be in your shire.

You could offer free pet roosters to everyone on the day. I'm sure there would be a few members willing to donate one or two. ;D

Tina, if you do go ahead with the display let me know as I know the editor for the midland papers, he is also an avid chook breeder, judge and exhibitor, and if you need to borrow some show cages we will be able to help you out. I am the secretary for Mundijong Poultry Club and will give you as much support as possible.
