After a short month long battle with epilepsy bought on by I don't know what my poor Buddy has been taken to doggy heaven. He was 3 years old and barely passed the puppy stage. Perfect in every way except maybe the habit of dissapearing, on visits to other local doggies and the odd visit to the pound, when the gates where left open. Even bought a frizzled roo home with him after the last visit to the pound. A lovely natured dog with plenty of cuddles and doggy kisses (licks) for the kids. Too big to be a lap dog but it didn't stop him trying. He liked to go for rides in the car and swim at the beach with the best fun being had biting the waves lapping on the sand. He loved to chase a ball, and the odd chook, but never the geese, they had his measure. I will remember him asleep in the sun on the back verandah or in one of the holes he dug in my garden under the shadiest trees on a hot day. RIP my little buddy

So sorry lakelands. It is so hard when you loose a pet, they are part of the family. Especially when they are so young. Its really hard on the kids or in your case, grandkids. We also lost one of our dogs in January, he got caught under the gate on about a 33 degree day. I was only out for just over an hour before the posty found him but he died a few hours later.

Commiserations Carolyn. I've been there and know how sad it can be. There is something about losing an animal you love that is quite different from losing family or friends. I think it is feeling responsible for them, as if they trusted you and you could or should have done something. Lots of love.

Thanks guys it's nice to know there is some where that you can put your thoughts down and know others understand what you are going through. It is too hard to talk to any one just yet so being able to put it into words makes me feel a bit better.
