Does anyone here have kangaroos and if so, do you know a forum similar to this one for discussing kangaroos. I've tried a couple in the past but they are not active and one I tried to start myself attracted very little response. I have a particular problem I would like to get some advice on.

Sorry Mike, it is not an animal many people would be allowed to keep, I think you need a special licence which is probably why you get little response. Try the RSPCA they may be able to help as there has been a lot of focus on kangaroos lately, unfortunately the wrong sort.

I don't know any forum's but I do know we kept some when we lived in Katanning. Basically took on the odd orphaned baby and release back to the wild once they were old enough. We had a couple that wouldn't go so we left them on a friends farm who kept a paddock for those ones. Slowly after a while they took off back to the bush but she still has some that came back for years... What's your problem Mike.

The problem is what looks like a large callous that forms on their skin. One had some on her arms but after months they dropped off and I suspect they are like a large tick which attaches itself. Now another has several of them, including one on her cloacka which I would like to remove but I'd like to know more about it first. Ours by they way (we have four) were hand raised but are now free to come and go as they please. They disappear in the bush for days but always come back for the green grass at the back of the house and because we feed them grain as well.

Wendy, thanks for the web site details. It is not one I have found before so I'll join it and see if I can get the info I need there.

Thanks Carolyn. I have that book and I have sent an email to Linda Staker, the author. Unfortunately it bounced so she must have moved. I know she was moving to Queensland but I thought she had taken her email address with her. Trying to track her down through another source. Will also talk with the lady at Roo Gully, if that is still open. Last I heard her husband, who ran off with one of the volunteers, was demanding half the value of the place and she was going to have to sell it or pay him out. Tha callous is about the size of a five or ten cent piece, slightly domed with a ragged edge and looks like leathery skin, similar to the undersides of their paws.
