Have had Silkie eggs hatching throughout the day and I've ended up with 7 lil cuties Unfortunately, the duck eggs are no good but theres always next time. The ducks have just started laying again this week so might stick half a dozen eggs under a broody pekin. Heres a pic of the newly hatched Silkies:

They look lovely, what colours are you expecting? Are they your eggs or did you buy them? Sorry for all the questions

Dont be sorry for the questions Im sure I'll be asking you guys plenty of questions. It looks like theyre all partridge. Theyre my eggs, 6 from the same hen and one from my bearded hen so maybe *fingers crossed* her chickie might be bearded.

It didnt look too bad yesterday, actually looked like the legs were improving so thought I'd wait til today before I did anything but this morning the lil one couldnt really stand up. The cause is probably either genetic or maybe those temperature fluctuations I had with the bator last week. He (dunno why Im calling it he but it just seems like a lil boy lol) has had his lil bandaid hobble on for a few hours now and is standing up much better now so hopefully he's gunna be ok

An update on lil mr splay legs: I've taken his bandaid hobble off this morning and he seems to be standing and walking okay. He also now has a lil friend up here at the house with him as he was cheeping constantly and would only keep quiet if I was with him, so the other night OH brought another lil chickie up from the shed to keep him company. It has worked out really well coz when the lil guy was on his own he wasnt eating and drinking much unless I showed him but now he's copying the other chick and eating and drinking much better.

I have just had a chick hatch that has splayed legs, how did you use the bandaids on yours? Did you tape the legs together???

Rather than trying to explain and ending up confusing you lol this link explains what I did: www.poultryhelp.com/spraddle.htmlIt seems to have done the job. The only downside is that when I took the bandaid hobble off it pulled out the feathers on his legs that were stuck to the bandaid so his legs are looking a bit bare. But its a small price to pay for a fixed chickie and they will grow back Although when changing his hobble the other day I discovered that if you tear little square pieces off of the waxy paper that you peel off the bandaids and stick those squares back on the bandaid where it wraps around the legs you wont lose any feathers when you remove the hobble.

Youre welcome Judy I did want to add for others that try this method, the chickie will have trouble standing up at first after you put the hobble on. You must make sure you keep checking the chick every 10 minutes or so for the first hour as the chick will fall over and roll onto its back unable to get up so you'll have to stand it back up again a few times. My chick fell on his back 3 or 4 times during the first hour but after that he was fine. Most sites you read about this method say the problem should be fixed in 2 days but I found that my chick wasnt quite right after two days and ended up needing the hobble for four days. Let us know how your lil one goes farmchooks
