I am not saying don't just be aware they may have issues , I haven't heard of any making it past 6 months as they just get to big for the bones. It's raining up here shame it wasn't 6 weeks ago , but I still have 1000 acres that is still a little green that will benifit from it.

Did you get much rain?
It came just in time. Large patches of grass have turned brown at our place. It would be good to get greenery again for a couple more weeks at least.
I have heard of meat birds making it past 1 year if they are exercised daily.

Candled the eggs last night. The light sussex eggs are developing nicely. The IG eggs are all clear for some reason. Slow developers? David the breeder has kindly offered to replace the eggs. Very much appreciated. A sign of a good breeder. Goodluck with your hatch chooky!

Of the 20 eggs that were due to hatch today I ended with 20 chicks it's the best hatch I've had. Tomorrow will tell how many cockerels and pullets are in the hatch when they are transferred to the brooders.

Wow! That is a very good hatch rate. The last time I had a similar hatch rate was 3 plus years ago. These days, I am happy with any hatch rate as long as I get a handful of chicks.
