Yesterday afternoon, a huge cloud of smoke appeared over the eastern end of our lovely little village here in Boddington, initially I did'nt give it a lot of thought as I could hear the siren's of the fire unit's in attendance, but decided to text my partner who work's at the gold mine & inform her of the incident, within an hour or so the whole village was swarming with fire fighting unit's from all over the Perth metro area, at 5.15pm we had a message to vacate our property as the threatening fire was about to pass through our area, you can possibly understand my concern, most of the neighbouring properties have horse's & the area was alive with horse float's & people removing their horse's to safer area's, both my partner & myself decided to take the ute with 1,000litre's of water to our block incase we could douse the fire break with water, the fire fighter's were EVERYWHERE ushering people out of the area, luckily all my chook's were at the property we are renting while we build our new home on our block and gladly out of harm's way, sadly, a large number of kangeroo's perished in the fire but luckily there have been no report's of human suffering, never got much sleep last night as the fire crew's were concerned that the wind was likely to change direction & come back in our direction, all in all, very restless night, but, thank god for our fire crew's,what a top bunch of people.

Yikes! Thankfully all's ok with you and your flock. At least nowadays, communities have learnt to set up command posts and evacuation centres well in advance. Hope the fire wasn't because of some idiot's idea of fun. We've been on call for 3 days straight because of a arsonist on other side of the shire. Since the weekend, he/she has lit more than 6 fires. Fire crews are a little bit over it as well as their families. Good luck and hope you gets lots of green re-growth in the winter!

Hi Belle, yes I was listening to the radio & heard there was a few fire's in your area, hope they catch the person responsible for lighting them (they generally do), I was blown away by the amount of people that were involved in our latest incident, people you did'nt suspect were in uniform & getting stuck in, ie,the local GP,bank manager, & supermarket staff, all involved in fire rescue procedure's, in the end only one small "week-ender"was destroyed & that belonged to an English Lord who never come's here anymore, it's good to know that no one was hurt, I love country people & their "stick together"frame of mind.
