I had 7 years ago 54 battery hens and 1 rooster, tried to get chickens, what a novice ( dunce) I was, decided to travel so gave them away (good move). Now I am starting again , this time with a computer and internet. I have 13 mixed pullets, 4 hens +1 rooster hi-line or isa brown 1 sussex mixed sussex rooster ? to many black spots to be sure, I longhorn rooster , Had 5 meat birds 2 tasted reel good 3 left almost to heavy to stand , plenty to choose for the table I am trying to set up some sussex to bread, and some wyandottes , white would be best. I have played on the internet and many years ago they crossed light sussex and white wyandottes to get eggs and a big meat bird, in my 3rd pen I would like to try to cross them , the wyandottes have to have no black on legs or the meat wont be white. That is after I have eaten the 13 rough necks I have Our admin suggested what would My mother in law be, the answer is red rooster but she would be to tough to eat, any way we don't eat red rooster. As I live near Merredin It is hard to get information and eggs or chicks, even having a hard time getting chicken starter mix. I had 24 fertile eggs posted and only 4 hatched again roughies , oops that is 17 birds ? So I am not happy with post , to rough on eggs. 4 to 5 weeks to go and I should get my first eggs , hi-line. I am still building the 3 rd pen not much to do to finish it.
