My new rooster has scaly leg. I have scrubbed the legs with soapy water and applied petroleum jelly as advised in one of the books I have. What it doesn't say is do I do this every day or just leave it on? Any advice? Also, I think this may be what caused the problem with the old rooster. What I now suspect is that the scales on its legs rubbed against its belly creating a sore which became infected and that what I thought was a bone fragment was one of the scales broken off and embedded in the wound. Something similar seems to have started with this rooster. Any advice too on a good insecticide to spray the perches?
Hi Mike I had a rooster with bad scaley leg and used the vaseline which I caked on really thick every day for a week as I wasn't sure how ovften to use it. I also used frontline which I sprayed onto the neck every 3 months. the scales dissapeared after the next moult which was months later and up till then I had no idea if the mites had gone or not
I use coopex on the perches and the cracks and crevices and poultry dust in the nests as well
