Just as the girls have come back on the lay. 14 eggs today, yipee One of my hylines has gone egg bound a few days ago. I have given her a warm soak in the laundry sink and rubbrg KY jelly on her rear and even gently massaged her. I have done this for 2 days and still no success. Tonight she is sitting on a towel with a hot water bottle. Has anyone got any other ideas as I think I will have to humanly cull her. Sadly Linda

Linda29,
I don't know if this will help you in any way.
A while back, may be 5 or 6 weeks ago, one of my brown layers was behaving abnormally. She was going in and out of the nest box, looked tired and sleepy with her tail down and neck pulled in most of the time. I thought she might be egg bound or worse (EYP). I held her in warm water for 30 minutes. It must have been soothing for her because she fell asleep in the tub. She did strain and pushed but only managed to produce droppings.
I then thought may be had a bad case of worms, so I wormed her. She didn't improve. I was close to culling her but each time I got into the pen to get her whe would perk up. So I decided to leave her and see what happens.
She is now on the mend, she is more active, eating a lot more and no longer sleepy. Though she is not laying, which is fine because we have more eggs than we can eat at the moment.
Good luck with your girl.
Chooky

Hi Chooky Thanks for your advice. I got home from work this arvo to find her with a bloody fleshy type of mess around her and she was very unwell so I kindly put her to sleep. I just hate it when things end like this, at least I tried to save her and now she is in no more discomfort. Cheers Linda
