My chooks leg scaling (i think thats what it is called) stands up and doesn't sit flat to there legs? is this a problem? We have thought it might be mites but we are not sure? The chooks are just mixed breeds but are all from the same parents. Our other chooks don't have the problem. Have you any idea what could be wrong. Thank you

Hello karray and welcome! Sounds like you have a case of scaley leg mite! You can cover the legs in vaseline (I like to mix a bit of eucalyptus oil in too for minor cases! - which yours sounds like) Otherwise, I have been treating my chookies with moxidectin which has worked absolutle wonders and there's no need to catch them all! How many chooks do you have? Can you post a couple of pics? Anyhoo - good luck!

Thanks Kitty

Thanks heaps i will try that. Ive got 13 chooks of all mixed breeds. I have a silver laced wyndott, aurcoura (the one that lays blue eggs i can never remember its name), isabrowns, and some weirdo crosses between silkies.

Hi Kitty! Yep, that's the one you put in the water, I think you can also get Ivomectin (the one for sheep?) - there's a great thread about all that somewhere in this section which is where I found out about it! Karray, I got my moxidectin from the vet on Welshpool Rd (Wattle Grove Vet - I think!) for about $30. I think in the thread I just mentioned someone said you can also buy it from a pidgeon club? Hope that helps!
