Iv had 2 hawk attacks in as many days ...Ripped the head of first a aracarna teen and today a young silkie .. I got rid of Fox's and snakes .. ..Now this..I put net over that pen, But some pens are to big for net . I thought I might cover part of them for the hens to find cover . Any other Ideas ? .Ill net the smaller pens tomorrow.

Hi annieyokie
I put fishing line across my open pens just for this reason it works and its inexpensive and if the hawk gets caught up in it well that's the end of it a large stick seems to work if it gets away it will not be back most of the time they see it at the last moment and turn upwards just a thought Trev

oh that's sad and amazingly game for the bird to still try and get thru the net in a small gap and i have to admit the hawks are really accurate too so it probably was a hawk i do hope it works with the new roof .. i hope it did not suffer

Iv put bird net over the pen and range with teenagers in and tied it down. Also have hung some netting by the pen doors and CDs in the ranging areas(to reflect the sun ) of the older chooks and bantam pens . After the 1 hawk that got caught in the bird netting .. it had pulled up the now tied down netting got in killed a silkie and got challenged by my dashound. Then it got caught in the netting trying to escape We haven't seen any since or lost any more birds . ;D
