Hi all, I just thought I'd share with you our experiment in recycling pallets to make some little chook houses. It might be useful to someone on a budget like us.
We have started one, only about 6 more to go!! To get it to this stage it has cost us nothing.Pallets free and old tin given to us. And we had the bolts. I will post more pics of the progress as we go. I wanted it to look a bit like a cubbyhouse when finished In fact the kids have put in their order for one once weve finished making them for the chooks as I gave the ducks their cubby (not that the ducks use the darn thing!!!) ;D
So far it has been going according to plan. It has worked out exactly as I had planned in my mind, which is highly unusual! You know how things normally go, you have a plan then everything that can go wrong, will!! Not this time...touch wood. So here are the pics so far. We have used 3 pallets for the walls and 1 cut in half for the roof. some bracing and the like from another pallet pulled to bits and another pallet will be used to get palings from to fill in the gaps. Tin will be placed over the roof and painted. Then a door of some description will be made for winter when its cold and miserable, so they are nice and cosy inside. Might even put a window in or something.
Anyhow, its a work in progress. tomorrow if we dont get sidetracked, it will hopefully be pretty much finished except for the paint. We have to buy that unless I can get some from freecycle or something.
Thanks to my wonderful bloke Alan for doing the hard work for me
Here is a sequence of pics so far,
