You all have inspired me to get my derelict veggie patch up and running again. My other half and son built me some above ground planters that are 1.8 m x 1.8 m wide x 90cm tall, as I have trouble bending down into ground level ones so very considerate of them. Plus they also built up one of the old larger beds that I had let go to god. Not quite as tall but a much bigger bed altogether.
We filled them with layers of hay and composted soil mix and manures, which took us most of yesterday to do. Today after a wonderfull trip to Bunnings I came home with a vast array of goodies including 6 different varieties of onions and leeks, betroot, carrots, peas, beans, squashes, tomatoes, capsicum, broccoli...I am sure there was more probably easuer to say what I didn't get. Also I got chatting the the lady in charge of the gardening section and before I left she markd down a couple of Rasberry bushes to $1.00 each as the leaves had burned a bit. I am now sitting here please as punch sunburnt and b*ggered but with everything planted, covered in shade cloth (as is still pretty hot here), watered and much admired....Only thing I didn't do was take some pictures...But I am sure I will get that done tomorrow
Looking forward to getting to eat them yum

Well done Carolyn Your veggies are going to taste great. We have had our veggie garden for 2 years and its as addictive as chooks. Peter and I are always on the look out for different veggies. Peter is a chilli man and his goal is to get as many different chillie plants as possible. So each new chilli plant equals a new chook in my book! Ha,Ha The next time I visit you to buy chooks I will see if you want to swap some veggies. Cheers Linda

lol good job Carolyn i too have let mine go the soil is so dry it now repels the water and it all beads off.. although i will get it going again for winter and my hubby has decided to shade cloth it for next summer as i have to let it go as it just uses too much water in summer and the veggies just look sad if you don't water them and taste bitter too ..But now i am inspired by you i think i too shall get out there and give it a go!!! (minus the sun burn i hope )

Great job! Wish I could find the motivation to get my tiny little veggie patch into order! Mine is like yours Bec - too neglected for too long and now won't even take water Only one sad little parsley plant has survived the summer. I'll have to plant it some friends soon!

Looking great well done and the soil looks great I have 4 I tried to use last year but with the heat we had they failed, They were from a 200 Tonne silo cut into rounds and they just got hot. I wonder if the shape would make any difference to them. This year I will have to put up a Polly dome and that should end all my problems once and for all. I watched a TV program and it told you how to make one looked easey to me do they not always would that not be great, Summer veggies for all !!!!!!!!!!!! and that would be a first Trev

LOL trev . I am sure you will get it sorted this next year. you seem a pretty determined guy. I will look forward to watching your efforts so make sure you post lots of piccies. I saw a show that used RIO mesh as the framework for a Poly tunnel ..maybe it was the same show you watched and it did look pretty easy. I might also get the other half to give it a go for the summertime as even with the bit of shade cloth I covered mine with, the plants still wilted a lot on the hotter days
I will have to post some more pics soon as you should see how big everthing is now. I have been eating the lettuces and sliverbeet already and they tasted great
