Fatsussex reminded me of this on another topic so thought i'd make a new one.
Stickfast fleas - Are they the bugs that seem to "Stick" to around the eyes and face? I got a bunch of chickens from a friend and they all had these, it looked as if they were wearing eye liner. I covered them in mite/flea powder and it seems to have worked.
Scaley Legmites - I think a couple of the older birds have these too, I've always ended up with chickens with these no matter what, and I've heard some things to get rid of them, like kerosene, and petroleum jelly / vaseline... (I tried the vaseline one, but geez its messy!!
Mites in general - A few years back i got a bad case of these in my chooks, they went pale and looked sick, I then used the mite poder and that worked.
Vaccines - I never had vaccinated, I never really knew you had to, but yeah. Any other information on vaccines would be great, because I do eventually want to get my chicken flock to be the healthiest and show quality. Back when I first started with chickens I got some free "ISA Brown roosters" not sure if thats what they're called but they all ended up being roosters, and then one by one they died off then one by one my other chickens died too, pretty sure it was cocciliosis (is that how you say it??)
So what are the best treatments you have used for any of these?

Hello squeak, I use Moxidectin to worm my chooks, and I do it at the start of every season. This product actually does internal and some external parasites. This is a very good article on worms and life cycles etc fowlfacts.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=afflictiondiseaseff&action=display&thread=1311I order mine from the eastern states from Knox Bird Clinic emai vet@auspigeonco.com.au or phone 03 -9800-5311 or 1300 -132- 038 In regards to vaccination, I was thinking along the same lines as you about starting a vaccination programme with my chicks as well. There are some problems to overcome. I have started to make some enquiries and this is what I have found out so far. This is the recommended vaccination program I was given age Recommended Day old Mareks 1-2 wks IB Vic S: Fowl Pox 12 Wks Fowl Pox Apparantly the IB is recommended to be an ongoing vaccination to be given every 8 wks The problems I have found so far is the smallest amount of vaccine you can get for Mareks and IB is 1000 chicks, it is freeze dried and has to be used in a 2 hour window for it to work. The cost is not prohibitive, I think from memory it was $48 for Mareks and $35 for IB, the postage was expensive that was approx $40 per order, so if you were going to go ahead it would be wise to purchase a few at one time. Hope that was of some help

Hi Squeak A few of the regulars have been walking me though treatment for Cocciliosis (sp?) over the last week or so. Boo seems to be responding well to the treatment. It's been a real learning curve, this is basically what I've done so far... hope it's some help to you. - Isolate (I'm using an old kennel). - If it's cold put a desk lamp in there for warmth. - Feed the Rickets Diet - see the link for recipe forum.backyardpoultry.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7975135- If your chook isn't eating by herself make a dry rickets mix, roll into small 'bullets' and force feed. (hold you chook, open her beak and pop it into the back of her month). Feed a few of these, until you can feel her crop has got food in it... repeat several times a day. -Treat with Sulphaquin or Sulphadim (from the pet store, I found it in the budgie/parrot section).
