Great piccies Wendy. Lovely coloured Pekin mums What colour will the two brownish chicks in the first batch be? I've got a little cuckoo cockerel (first one hatched from my own birds), identical to your little fella. His hatchmate, a pullet, is also cuckoo but lighter grey. Think I might have a buff cuckoo from the 100% hatch batch too!!

Hey Steph, they will be white like the chicks in the second lot of photos. They are actually a greyish and yellow colour when they hatch, I think the brown is dust lol Ooooh!!! Buff cuckoo!!! I like the sound of that!! PICS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wendy, would the brown coloured one I have from your eggs be from the broody with the 5 whites? It is still brown and getting darker feathers through the tail.

Hi Shea, I was sure she was broody at the time I collected your eggs, but her chicks hatched about a week before Christmas so now Im thinking yes, she definately could be the mum! because your eggs were collected mid November werent they, so she most likely went broody just after that. If she is mum, that would explain where the brown colour is coming from as she is grey/brown in colour with brown/gold colouring in her hackles and chest. Steph, the whites are really stunnning. But Ziggy's hackles and saddle have gone yellowed from the sun. It doesnt seem to affect the hens only the male feathers. I cant wait to see the chickies

:-) it's like looking in a mirror and seeing my future self... I'm about to con hubby into building an A frame for my next batch of chicks... it seams chicken houses have a habbit of multiplying.
