Hooray! I candled eggs tonight and 7 out of 10 show good activity, so my experimental hatch appears to be off the ground and growing!

only 2 more days till the ill fated first run of the new havabator eggs are due to hatch... I know for sure that 3 are no good but the rest all seem to be doing something. I stopped turning this morning now and fingers crossed that I have some chicks in 2 more days.
These ones are some pekins form over east and a few speckled sussex and frizzles ...I can't wait

Not going so well atm. so far 4 have hatched. 1 zipped but died still in the shell. there are a couple others that have broken through the shell but don't seem to be moving any more....so I am not really sure what's going wrong. I am just leaving them to see if I get any more action. The speckled sussex is still trying but so far has only poked his beak through and seems to be slowing right down. I am trying not to intervene

Yeeeeah finally one of the speckled sussex has hatched....it took about 30 hours from when I 1st saw it break through the shell. I had to help it a bit in the end, just broke away some of the shell leaving the membrane intact as didn't want to cause it to bleed. It is twice the size of the little pekin chicks and has yellow fluff. which surprised me as the parent birds are dark mahogany and I thought the chick would have dark fluff.
so looks like I have a total of 6 chicks from the 16 or so eggs that I put into the bater. I will post some photos tomorow after they fluff up a bit.

oh and 4 more of the chicks have died after breaking through the shell. A couple of them had even partly zipped so if any one has any ideas as to what would cause them to die so late in the hatch please let me know. The temperature seemed fairly stable. The humidity was reading between 50-60 as the hatch progressed.
I have never had this happen before but this is a new incubater and I will need to make some sdjustments I think before I set the next lot. thanks
