Hi all, well I rescued (not that the duck probably thinks that!! lol) a lovely little stray white muscovy from my Community garden today. It has been hanging around munching peoples veges and being a nuisance. I offered to take it home in case someone decided to make it Sunday roast!! lol Anyway, how do I introduce it to my Pekin ducks as they are pretty territorial. It is in with the Ara's at the moment. I dont know if its a boy or girl. It seems quite small (about half the size of my Pekins) so probably young. I will post a pic when I get time so if anyone knows about Mussies, they might be able to help sex it. Any advice would be great Thanks, Wendy

Half the size of your Pekins? Yeh, it must be a young one. Post a piccie for us and I might be able to sex it As for introducing it to the others, its probably gunna be a matter of try it and see. If its a female, things will go smoother. If its a male, the pekin boys wont be too impressed but being a young bird will make things a little easier. Maybe first, pop it in a cage if you've got a spare one and place that in the yard with the Pekins and see how they react to it. That way they can get to know each other without the mussie getting attacked.

I wonder where she came from. the river is right behind the community garden so its possible she swam down from somewhere or was dumped. I dont know. Alans taken a shine to her. She's very friendly especially if you have food!! She's roosting in the chooks shed!!I didnt know they roosted! I see Ive got a bit to learn about Muscovies!!

Another thought is maybe give her a friend of one of the ducks, see how they get on and introduce them together. When we did our ducks we have them in pens next to each other for a long time. Even when we did introduced them to each other there was conflict for several days, then all of a sudden they were all the best of mates. We made sure they had plenty of room so any feeling threatened could get away.
