The lame Araucana may have Mareks. I could be freaking out about nothing, but it could be The worrying thing is I separated the newbies form my others in quarantine only with wire fence, sleeping quarters included I have the lame one in a crate on the patio now, but Im feeling ill I dont want my beautiful new girls to get crook! I rang the man I bought them off and he's never heard of Mareks. I rang him to ask about when the injury happened and if he saw it, how she was before etc. he said she was ok beforehand but he also said a couple of others had been like that but recovered. I didnt want to hear that at all. Im soooo stupid. I wa more worried about the new ones getting the CRD than them giving something to my chooks. It may be nothing more than a sore muscle or something, but she wasnt flinching when I checked her over when moving her leg about. Aaaagggghhhh!!! I fell so sick! I dont want to lose all my lovely birds. Sorry guys, just venting my frustration. Wendy

If it is mareks hopefully your other chookens have built up some natural immunity to it, this again emphasises the importance of quarantine away from your existing flock as you never know what other hidden little goodies are coming in with new chookens, if it was me I would be giving all the birds some vitamins and probotics including my existing , to try and keep them them tip top, then at least you are giving them a fighting chance. Good Luck!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that Wendy I have my fingers crossed for you that this isn't the case, and she will pull through for you, but Judy made some good points about quarantine, it's always a good idea to quarantine all new additions for as long as possible to avoid any hidden surprises affecting the whole flock. Good luck, and i hope that it's something minor

Thanks Judy, I am giving them vitamins in their water. Its a wait and see situation I suppose. I am feeling a little more positive this morning. I just had that awful sick feeling yesterday, you know. Like because of these new chooks, I could lose the lot and have to start over!Call me a drama queen!!It might not even be Mareks!! lol Cheers, Wendy

oh Wendy you are so NOT a drama queen i lost all my silkie bantams by adding 4 new girls to the flock and not quarantining them and i know how you feel sick is not the word they all have there own individual personalities too best of luck and i took my chicken to the ag dept sadly they did put it down but they did a autopsy and confirmed it for me for free ..but it was still horrible watching them all suffer like that it is also air borne and can be spread by the feather dust i would clean out and sterilize the pen and put all the straw in the bin or to the tip ..if it isn't meriks you will have a lovely clean pen and if it is you have given all the others a better chance also it is spread from mother to baby so make sure you incubate ALL your eggs at the moment just incase best of luck !! I hope i have not scared you but i will be thinking of you Wendy

Well, Ive pretty much been told by a Mod on BYP that she has Mareks. !@#$%^&* So well have to put her down and hope the others will be ok I feel sick again The thing is, the others that I had her in with may not show any signs of having it for months. It really concerns me.

What a shame, hoping that all will be ok for the others. I suppose you will tell the guy you bought them from about this. He may need to do something to his flock too.
