Just wondering if anyone will be going to the Merredin Poultry Club show on the 4th July? I know its a long way off but if anyone else is going I would be interested to learn the ropes of showing, and maybe have a go? I've got a few birds in mind so maybe someone could lend their knowledge and help a newbie?

Can you enter only single birds or pairs or trios? Do they have to be male/female or can you enter a pair of females?

Most shows do have classes for pairs, but you would have to wait for their schedule to come out, I have only ever seen male/female pairs at the shows I have been too, but checked a couple of the schedules I have here and it doesnt stipulate that they do have to be male/female pairs, tried to ring a couple of other members of my poultry club for you to check up of the female pairs query, but couldnt get hold of anybody, hopefully someone else might be able to help on that on, sorry I only ever enter single birds. when you phone the club to get your schedule posted out, ask the secretary then for female pair query, as it could change from show to show. good to hear that you are going to have a go, it is good fun and you can talk chooken talk ALL day and no one will roll their eyes at you LOL

I just have a nice pair of Porcelain d'Uccle Pullets that I think would be good together Otherwise I will just enter the one I like best. Ive also got a male/female pair of sebrights that I could probably take but maybe it would be best just to take one for my first time.... not sure Yes it does sound like fun but daunting!

Have just spoken to the powers that be and apparently it is only breeding pairs. If you have the time to get all 4 ready to go -go for it, because on the day you only have to pen them and then go off and socialise. and it is great fun

I think it will depend on whether the sebright boy gets all his feathers back nicely in time, he has moulted and is looking a bit scraggy.

Merredin Poultry Club has classes for young birds (pullet & cockerel 8 to 12 months old) and old birds, pairs are a male and female. There are also classes for juniors.
The new schedule will be available shortly. Email mdps@westnet.com.au to be put on the mailing list.
