My grandson, who is 5 and just started pre-primary, gave us all a terrible scare today. I was at home, which is 5 minutes walk from the school, having a read before going to pickup my grandchildren from school and the door bell rings. As I walk down the hall I see a familiar sillouette through the glass. I open the door to find Jayden standing their 'Hello Nana'. I look around hoping to see an adult, but no-one. I am getting a little freaked out by now and try to understand from Jayden why he is at 'Nana's house' and not at school. For those of you who do not know, Jayden has developmental delay which means his vocab and understanding are way behind children of his age. I managed to get out of him that 'Nana was lost' and he also had a sore on his arm he wanted to show me. He had fallen over in the playground. A couple of minutes later his mother walks in the door from work and can't believe he is there as he had to cross two roads to get to my house. I rang the school and got hold of the pre-primary teacher. I told her who I was and said that I had Jayden with me, she was very relieved as they had been searching the school for him. We sussed out that he had gotten confused when they told him to put his school bag outside on the hook. We presume he thought that school had finished and that Nana was lost and went home without him. Thankfully his guardian angel was watching over my precious little one and he made it home without any mishap. Hopefully he has now understood that he must wait for Nana or Mummy.

I must admit I was getting a little emotional when Leah came in as I was thinking of the what ifs. He was fine about the whole thing as if it was totally normal for him to come and find me. Now the little rat bag thinks he can cross the road on his own. Another hurdle, as if we need more with him...lol We are so thankful that he is ok and so are his teachers. I don't know who got more of a scare me or them.
