Well i think it is time to put up a new coop ( much to the disgust of my husband who will have to build it and has been putting of starting ) but now i have a couple of breeds i need to keep them separate and even though they are still babies i figure that they will happily live next to each other and not get upset if i start them young or is that wishful thinking and so i have drawn up a plan for the hubby i think i will be a great supervisor ( i really plan to help but will let him think i am not he may move faster then Ha Ha ) iam so excited and hope to start in April i will post photo's when we are done

Sounds great beck. Thats the problem when you start keeping a few different breeds and want to breed purebreds, you never stop needing more pens lol. I started with one pen and currently have 6 pens with 2 more under construction plus some breeding pens. The backyard is turning into a chookery lol. Look forward to seeing piccies of yours when its done

Oh so true Steph, I started off with one large one that has now been divided up into 4. Hubby is moving a fence so that one of the pens can have the shade of a tree and be at least possibly fox proof. It is a huge job, just moving a fence here involves jack hammers (last fathers day present) cement, attempting to dig (I live on rock) and a lot of sweat (especially in this heat). The fence is an old pool fence so it is not high enough so he took the gate to work and welded some pieces on to make it higher. Over the weekend he is getting some lattice to put on top of the rest of the fence to raise it up. I did ask him to move the old coup so that the pen could have have its own, but upon thinking about it, he just boarded up the entrance of the existing coup from the middle pen and opened it up in the end pen. Totally obvious to all but me and my daughter.....lol. So look out Beck, OH is going to be on a never ending building project....lol

I know what you mean. I started with one small one which soon grew to 2 big ones plus 1 breeding pen and 1 just for my roosters that haven't got homes to go to. The geese have now taken over one of the pens so I would like to seperate my newest very large pen into 2 but having trouble getting the OH excited about the prospect of more chicken coop work. He's not such a big fan as I but usually comes up with the great ideas......Perhaps I'd better wait until it cools down a bit before I start wirking on him. I also want him to make me some more small breeding pens as I bought the last one and it cost heaps ... just need to convince him that if he makes them for me I'll save him heaps of money....jsut need some designs now
