YAY!!!! I just checked my eggs and the Wyandotte egg is pipping. I'm so thrilled because I couldnt see any movement in it when I candled last night so I was beginning to think it was gunna be another dud hatch. Now I've just gotta cross my fingers that it hatches without trouble. I also checked my Silkie eggs and one chick has broken through to the air sac and is cheeping already (they're due tomorrow), so maybe I'll have a D Gregory Silkie chick by tonight Will keep you posted. Oh, and Happy New Year!

Great Steph, I will be very interested to see what colours you get from the silkies. Mine were a great mix. I can't wait for them to get bigger so I can see what they turn out like. Geez we are impatient...lol Sounds like the heat has not affected your hatch so far. Good luck with the hatch and as usual keep us posted

Still no more progress from the Wyandotte egg. Its still peeping, very softly though. But I'm forcing myself not to interfere yet, as it was only due today. I need to try to be patient (easier said than done lol). However, one of the Silkie eggs has pipped through the shell not long ago so it looks like I might have a chickie by morning I quickly listened to the other Silkie eggs and can hear lots of pipping and cheeping going on in all but one egg (out of 8) so its looking good

Steph, I don't go by when it was due if it has pipped I go by the progress or lack of to decide if I will assist. Sometimes they pip and then sleep for 12 or so hours, so don't panic. But saying that if nothing happens by the morning if it was me I would be doing something. Great to hear about the silkies, sleep well tonight....lol

Lol. Im not too worried about the silkie eggs, I just checked them and they're still pipping strongly and cheeping so they're still doing well. The Wyandotte egg has gone quiet though so might candle it shortly. I dont think I'll get much sleep tonight so I'll probably be checking them all the time. We had to take the bub over to Northam hospital earlier coz he's peeing blood. They dont know why, but let us bring him home as long as we keep a close eye on him, so I'll be getting up all night checking him and the eggs. We have to wait until 11am tomorrow to get test results from the hospital. So hopefully when I get up in the morning there will be a chickie waiting for me, and that'll brighten my day a bit.

Well, I've got 2 lil chicks this morning I tried to upload a piccie but photobucket is down so I'll try again later. Both black legs and 5 toes on each foot. One is dark blue and the other looks light blue. Five other eggs are still pipping but the wyandotte egg is quiet so I may have lost it. I'll have a closer look at it in a little while.

I had a closer look at the Wyandotte eggs and its dead in shell Disappointing but nevermind... There's now 6 Silkie chicks - 2 splash, 3 dark blue and one with yellow legs that I think will look identical to yours fluffy. Havent had a close look yet to see if the others have 5 toes or not. They're still in the bator at the moment and I will cross my fingers that it doesnt overheat this afternoon because we've got to take the bub down to Joondalup hospital now.

Great news about the silkies, shame about the wyandotte. Did you open it to see what went wrong? Funny thing about my yellow legged one is that they seem to be getting darker. I will take a picture later and compare. What colour do you think it will end up being, maybe a partridge? Are you letting the breeder know about the yellow legs? I think they would be interested to know that they are starting to get this coming through. I wonder if the person who posted on BYP bought eggs from them too.
I hope the news is good about your boy, not a nice experience for anyone.

Finally I'm home, and thank god the chicks didnt end up overheating in the bator. I was so worried that I'd get home and they'd be dead. I have just helped the last chick a little bit as it hasnt made any progress since this morning. I have also just taken the others down to the brooder. The one that was born with the yellowish legs now has pinkish legs lol and it somehow managed to get its foot through one of the holes in the mesh floor of the bator and get itself stuck. As a result of that it seems to have splay legs but I wont be able to brace them for a couple of days as I wont be home. It hasnt dried out completely yet so still unsure of colour (was verrrryyy hot here today so high humidity in bator) but I dont think its partridge though. I will email the breeder to let her know the outcome of the hatch and the yellowish now pinkish legs. Hopefully like yours the legs will get darker. As for the bub, he has a bad UTI and has to stay in hospital til at least Monday. Mainly because they dont do ultrasounds on the weekends and he needs one on his kidneys just to make sure they're ok. He's gotta have someone with him at night so OH has stayed with him tonight because I had the chicks in the bator to sort out, but I'll stay with the bub tomorrow night. So if you dont hear from me, thats why Here's the piccie I tried to upload this morning when photobucket was down. I havent had a chance to take anymore piccies yet with us being out most of the day.

Thanks guys I'm home for the night tonight, its OH's turn to stay with the bub again. I'm sooo tired, hardly slept at all last night, the foldout bed they supply for the parent is bl**dy horrible. It might as well not even have a mattress on it coz you can feel every bar of the frame lol. The bub is doing better today, we're hoping that we can bring him home tomorrow after his ultrasound. It will depend on the results of that and blood and urine tests. Also he was peeing normally again but the last two nappies before I left earlier were pink again(but thank god not dark red like before) so if that continues tonight, the doc might not want him to go home yet. I feel like a chook running around with its head cut off lol, its been so hectic, I've just spent the last hour running around feeding and tending to all the animals and now I can finally sit down and rest for a little while! As for the chickies, well that last chick that I helped hatch on friday night survived the night and next day but OH was home looking after the animals last night/this morning and he said that when he went down to feed them this morning there was one dead chick from my eggs and one dead from the new chicks. I asked him if it was the one with splay legs (which by saturday morning had miraculously been fixed just by spending the night on non slip matting) and he said yeh it was, but tonight I discovered it wasnt, it was the one I helped. So thats a shame but still had a good hatch, ended up with 6. The ex-splay legged one with pinkish legs has now got slightly darker legs which is good and its the first time I've seen it dry tonight because I havent been home. The colouring is a little different to your yellow legged one fluffy, its sort of different shades of grey and blue in a partridge type patterning. I havent had a chance to take any piccies yet but hopefully I can in the next couple of days. Since I dont have any pics of the chickies, heres one of the bub having a crawl today. He's still got the drip needle in his arm, hence the splint/bandage. His name is Tané btw

Goregeous little fella, its amazing how they take everything in their stride. The splint doesnt seem to be worrying him at all
