It was sooo hot out here today, and it still is coz theres not even a whisper of a breeze yet I felt so sorry for the poor chookens. Although they do seem to cope surprisingly well with the heat. The forecast out here for the next few days is 40,40,41,40 and then we get a break, 34 lol. I'm watching the bator temp like a hawk

OUCH!! Thats sounds like hell How do you keep the bator sensible in heat like that?? Im not sure but I think it was about around 30. Not sure didnt see the weather tonight. Too busy out with the animals My Ducks now have a baby bath and the 2 other containers to swim in. The chickie star has been put outside under the trees in the portacot the last couple of days. Bringing her in when the wind picks up about 6 oclock. She likes it out there with the garden birds and close enough to hear the ducks carrying on honking. Only a week to go till she gets some friends hopefully

Sounds like she must be enjoying herself My ducklings have now got a paint roller tray to splash around in and they are loving it, especially in this heat. In another week or so I'll give them a cat litter tray instead so they can have some slightly deeper water. Keeping the bator temp stable... well its a matter of constantly checking it, like every hour during the day and evening. We dont have air conditioning so by mid afternoon the house is a hotbox. But I did pretty well with the temp today, it got to about 102 at one stage but no hotter so thats not too bad. At least I've had the experience of it getting to 106 in the past and the chicks still hatched so I wont freak out so bad if it were to do that again. But I'll be doing everything I can to make sure it doesnt!

It was pretty warm here in the hills today too, but thankfully not that hot. But later in the week it is going to be. I went down to the pens and wet some of the soil to help cool them down. They went straight to it.

OMG, I think I'm dieing lol. It's sooooo hotttt!. I've just been out to feed all the animals and my gawd its warm out there. I put the sprinklers on in the chook runs for a couple of minutes so that they could play in the wet dirt. Even the poor little new chicks are panting. Amazingly I'm managing to keep the bator temp pretty stable. Fingers crossed we get a cool breeze come in soon......

my new additions are very spoilt. At the moment they are in the brooder in air conditioned comfort. I think they will need to toughen up soon, or else the stink of the brooder will push us outside. Just a few more days inside and hopefully a few cooler days and they will get a new home in the brooder cage, outside.
