Hi everyone, my name is Carolyn, I'm married with 2 kids and 1 grand-baby and I live in Gnangara. I have just joined as a new member after reading through and thoroughly enjoying some of your many experiences. I have been breeding and hatching (both in incubators and under the hens) backyard chickens for a number of years now and earlier this year added 5 geese to my family (now they are 9 as we had some babies in Sept. My chickens are mostly cross breeds but now that I have built some more chicken runs, I am looking to get into some pure breeds. All my good intentions in the past have led to very friendly free range chickens but unfortunately the boys have run amok amongst the hens and now I have many cute and colourful but cross bred chickens. I am hoping to get my hands on some pure breed Araucanas and Gold Laced Wyandottes to start with and looking forward to using this site to help me get started. My favorite hen is Little Mumma, a Frizzle bantam, so named as she is the best Mummy hen. She will even take the babies that I hatch in the incubator under her wing.
Cheers Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, welcome to WAP. Great to have another member with breeding experience here to share their knowledge and help those new to chook keeping Your frizzle bantam sounds like a great hen, its good to have one or two girls like that in your flock that you know you can rely on to take on chickies whenever needed. Look forward to seeing some piccies of your chookens

To post piccies:
1. Go to photobucket.com and set up an account (very basic and its free). 2. You will receive an email to confirm your account and to go to photobuckets home page to log in. 3. Select upload and choose the file you wish. 4. You will then see the photo you have selected, select skip this step, if you wish you can ad a title to the photo if you have not already done so. 5. Select the photo you wish to post and then click on generate HTML and IMG code tag at the bottom of the page. This will then take you to a page with the HTML coding, please select Option 3 only, as this is for message boards as is automatically sized correctly. Copy and paste into your thread and you are done.

Thats ok Carolyn What breed are your geese? They're lovely. I'm hoping to get a pair of Sebastapol geese at some stage, but they're very hard to come by so I think that will be a whiles away yet. Oh, and call me Steph, its quicker to type

Thanks Steph, I am not sure what breed my geese are. I got them from a lady who was moving back to suburbia and I never thought to ask at the time. I think they are Pilgrim Geese as These can be sexed by colour....Males are white and the females are grey....So far the original white one turned out to be the gander and the 4 grey ones all layed eggs.. Now I have 4 more young ones. 2 white and 2 grey so I will see if I am right..Sebastapol geese are they the ones with frizzle feathers. If so they are cute I hope you can get soem soon as geese have really great personalities and are great fun to watch the social structure. they are so protective of the young ones but I am lucky they seem to think I am one of them. every one else gets chased
