Hello, I didn't know where else to post it so if it is in the wrong section can a mod please move it. I have 2 peacocks, boy and girl. something really scared the wits out of them a few days ago(Im guessing a fox). They were terrified for a while. I just head a ruckus of screams and ran outside to find the male on the roof crying out for the girl. After a while we found her on the roof too. Since then she has not made a solitary sound and she has always been vocal. Her head and neck are always pulled in instead of being stretched out and she constantly opens her mouth like she is sqwaking but nothing comes out. She was the leader and now she just sits behind the male and does not run around anymore like she used to. This has all happened since her big scare. She eats and drinks fine. I am wondering if she was damaged physically but cannot see a mark on her. If no improvement over weekend I will take her to vet. Just wondering if anyone has seen this type of thing before?

SHE'S MISSING We put the 2 peacocks in the ducks pen for a few hours yesterday as we want to let the ducks out to free roam around the pond and back yard so we want the ducks to get used to them and not be afraid. When we let the peacocks back out, everything was fine, then at 8pm last night the male was sqwaking his head off so we went outside and she was nowhere to be seen. We looked everywhere last night and this morning and she is gone We were hoping that she may have gone up a tree last night but that was wishful thinking. We think that whatever scared the crap out of them the other day had affected her badly and we have been wondering if maybe she went deaf. My hubby thinks she may have had something wrong with her brain as she certainly has not been the same. Today is a sucky day as it couldn't have happened at a worse time as it is also the anniversary of my baby that I lost to SIDS. Bye beautiful little peacock RIP Bradley Bernard

We found her. She just died We found her sitting under some bushes and she was sitting there looking quite comfy We went and rang a vet who specializes in birds in Wattle Grove and we were taking her from Moore River to him because we could just sense that since she had a scare something wasnt right. She was eating, drinking, flying up to the roof, walking etc: and she had no marks etc: so we thought she was ok but had got a BIG fright and she just hadn't settled again yet. So we went for another look and she was sitting there, we rang the vet, went back up to get her and she had died. Now I feel guilty for not taking her to the vet last week when she had a fright

Sorry for your loss. Dont feel guilty fancy, unfortunately these things happen sometimes and we always then think about the 'what ifs', which just makes you feel even worse. You did the best you could for her at the time.
