Okay, I've got guinea eggs in the bator atm, and am adding silkie and frizzled pekin eggs on tuesday but I've just found some eggs on farmstock that I'd love to buy. I havent got any spare broody hens atm so my question is: could I put these eggs into the bator when they arrived even though the eggs already in the bator would be due to hatch probably a week before these ones? Would it stuff things up when it comes time to stop turning the first lot but the second lot still need turning ie still needing to open the lid to turn the second lot after first lots day 18 when I normally dont open the lid again until hatching.

I have done that, I just remove a couple of the egg holders and lay the hatching eggs directly on the wire while the auto turner keeps going. Works well. I have had no problems.

I always have staggered hatching in my bators the only problem I can see is you will lose the humdity factor on hatching day by opening the lid to turn the other eggs, possibly dont turn the other eggs on hatch day and you should be fine. I sometimes forget to turn the manual bator and they still seem to hatch fine .

Hi guys, just wondering about the increase in humidity at the end of hatching. Will this affect eggs that arent due to hatch for a week or so later? Cheers, Wendy

With my incubator as each tray goes into the hatcher at the bottom of the bator I always put the sponge in the water tray for the last 3 days for the tray that is hatching (this supposedly increases the humidity according to the manual) and I usually always have a pretty good hatch rate from the remaining trays, so going by that I presume it shouldn't have that much effect.

I havent found any adverse effect with the high humidity on my other eggs. I go by the fact that higher the humidity is ok but if it gets too low that is when it can get disastrous.

Hi Farmchooks & Horses, thats good because i am putting in bantam eggs tonight with duck eggs that are on about day 11 I think. I was going to put them on a cake rack to lift them up to the same height as the bigger eggs. Because the thermometer has to read from the top off all the eggs. What do you think? Thanks, Wendy

I havent bothered with the rack because they arent actually that much lower than the duck eggs, like I thought theyd be.

Hi guys, I have another question Just wondering about opening my incubator to turn the bantam eggs that will be on day 12 when the duck eggs are to stop being turned. I know I will lose the humidity, but I do spray the duck eggs each time I turn them. hopefully this will keep the moisture up for them. What do you think?

You won't be spraying the eggs once you stop turning them. You can put a damp sponge in the bator to help keep up the humidity. Just try and make the time you have the lid open as short as possible.

Thanks fluffychook, I will try the sponge. Ive found Ive gotten much quicker at turning all the banty eggs(36) than at the start! Hopefully by the time the ducklings are ready to hatch, I will be even quicker
