Well guys, I have added 3 dozen mixed colour Pekin and Belgian D'uccle bantam eggs in with the duck eggs. The lady gave me an extra dozen for some reason. Gee they look tiny compared with the duck eggs!! Hope I get quite a few hatching. I cant wait to candle in a week or so.

What a nice lady. I love to look at different breeds as babies. It is amazing how they turn out so different

Well, that worked! now to my question As the duck eggs are due to hatch well before the bantam eggs, i thought I should try and separate them. I was worried about newborn ducklings floundering around and damaging the bantam eggs. Any suggestions? the drink bottle can come out.I put it in to help keep the temp more stable when I only had the duck eggs in. It should be ok now as there are more eggs. Also, some of the eggs are a bit dirty, I wiped them over before putting in but that poo is stubborn!! I read somewhere not to scrub them too much so Im hoping the poo wont pose a problem? Thanks, Wendy

Hi Wendy, I separated my hatches with a piece of cardboard or something that can keep the ducklings from disturbing the other eggs. Worked well for me My duck eggs were absolutley plastered in poo from when they were under the broody hen. They all hatched fine. So I would not get too worried about that

Thanks fluffychook, I will try that. Well, I candled the duck eggs again last night and I finally got rid of the 2 suss ones. We are down to 9 egg. All of these look good, most I could see the duckling moving around, which is great, the other couple may have been having a rest. Only 11 days to go Cheers, Wendy

Hi guys, an update, I candled the bantam eggs and Ive got about 1/2 dozen eggs out of the lot that look fertile and growing. Its day 6 or 7 today I think!! Im really pleased some are ok, I thought I might not get any! They took 9 days by post to get to me, so theyve had a rough start. There is more Pekins than D'uccles but one of the D'uccle eggs thats fertile is a Millifleur so Im SO happy about that. Hope it hatches and is a girl! Ciao 4 now
