Im so excited I just had to share my excitement with somebody lol. One of my lil gold birchen pekins has just today hatched out my first clutch of guinea keets! I had her in my broody pen and luckily I went out to check after lunch because I discovered a blue tongue in the house with the hen having a drink. So I hastily moved her into a big bird cage so that the d**n lizard doesnt eat the lil bubs. Anyways, in doing so I discovered that some of the keets look to be lavender, which Im so chuffed about as I was only expecting to get pearl and pearl pied. Unsure how many keets I've got as not all the eggs had hatched yet. Sorry about all the babble but Im just so thrilled ;D ;D ;D

Babble away, so happy for you. Now we (well I want) some photo's. I have never seen guinea keets. I just know that they are very noisy.

Noisy is an understatement lol. Theyre certainly not birds for the suburban backyard thats for sure. I will try to take some pics tomorrow, the pearl keets are brown with partridge like markings and the lavender are a silvery colour. So cute!

Here's a couple of piccies I took this morning. Not the best pics, I should be able to take some better ones once the keets are a bit more active. She's also in a big bird cage atm, will be moving her into a little hutch early next week hopefully. Found this hutch nice n cheap on dinosaurdeals and thought it would be a great lil pen for mums with new chicks: www.dinosaurdeals.com.au/details.cfm?categoryid=26&subcategoryid=112&productid=1019Mum with some of the keets: One of the lavender keets:

Yeh they do sound the same actually. Gorgeous arent they, looking at them its hard to believe what they will become. Guinea's seem to be an acquired taste, most people think theyre sooo ugly lol. But I think theyre one of those animals thats so ugly its cute if ya know what i mean Looks like I've got 2 lavenders, the others are pearl and pearl pied.

My brother in law used to have them and when we visited, THE NOISE. They are a very attractive bird, but the noise. Now my sister has them, she at least lives on 250 acres and so the noise factor is not a problem. We can observe and admire from a distance. I did not know they came in different colours. I will be interested in seeing updated photo's as they get older

Just thought I'd update on the keets progress, all 7 are doing well, there was an 8th keet born the following day but it died that night. Their wing feathers are coming through now and they dont really sound the same as chicks anymore. Will try to take some new piccies in the next few days, have been so busy building my new laying hen house that I havent been out with the camera much this week
